Soda blasting is ideal for preparing metal or
fibreglass vehicles without scratching, damaging
or warping fibreglass, rubber seals, plastics,
glass, hydraulics or metals such as certain
aluminium and chrome. Normal stripping
techniques such as sanders, grinders, chemical
stripping or traditional sand blasting to remove
paint takes several days to completely prepare,
strip and clean metal surfaces. The
non-destructive abrasive characteristics of Soda
blasting reduces cycle time by cleaning,
de-greasing and paint stripping all in one step.
There is no other paint stripping method
available today that can do all that.
Natural Rust Inhibitor
As long as the baking soda residue is on a
ferrous metal and is free from moisture, rust
will not form. For rust to form, free moisture
and an acidic condition must exist. In most
cases, free moisture combines with carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere to form carbonic acid.
This acid releases a free metal (ferrous) ion,
which combines with oxygen(oxidizes) to form
rust. Baking soda buffers tht acids, prevents
the release of free metal ions and prevents
rust.
No Need to Re-Profile Steel
Natrium 260 Soda blast media will not profile
steel. When an operator removes a coating from a
metal surface, he or she exposes the existing
anchor pattern under the coating. Unless
corrosion has occurred, there is no need to
re-profile the steel. If there are areas on the
metal surfaces that do exhibit rust or
corrosion, SBA will lightly blast the area (on
the agreement of the owner) with a coarser
abrasive.
:: Concrete walls,
Bricks and Pavers
From painted or fire damaged concrete and brick
walls to soft limestone monuments, or even
sandstone walls and pavers, soda blasting knows
no equal. Because of the non-destructive
abrasive effect of soda blasting, either hard or
soft masonry and stone surfaces can easily be
cleaned in a matter of minutes. In most cases
where outside blasting is being performed
concerning paint removal or smoke damage to
outside walls, a small amount of water is used
to help suppress the dust caused by the blasting
process. To ensure no contaminates reach or leak
into the storm water system and ultimately our
waterways, we use and recommend Geo-textile
socks and drain covers which is in accordance
with EPA and all local council requirements.
:: Boats
A boats gel-coat is the protective barrier to
the underlying fibreglass. Once damaged, water
can penetrate between it and the fibreglass
creating blisters, fractures and delamination of
the gel-coat. This damage often goes un-noticed
and is often covered by many layers of paint.
The boat owner is often unaware that his hull
has been compromised until its too late.
Conventional hull cleaning and paint stripping
methods rely on scraping, sanding and hazardous
chemicals. Scraping heavy accumulations of
marine growth off a vessels bottom can easily
gouge a hulls gel-coat and cause serious damage.
Sanding and sand blasting are the most
destructive paint removal process in the marine
industry.
Most boat bottoms never get completely stripped
due to the cost involved. Over a period of time,
heavy layers of peeling paint create a rough
surface. A rough surface creates drag, decreased
performance, results in poor fuel efficiency and
if there is water penetrating the gel-coat,
eventual loss of hull integrity. Soda blasting
is simply the most effective hull cleaning
process available today! It’s a high pressure,
non destructive, air-driven process that safely
removes paint and contaminants. Soda blasting is
able to remove anti-fouling paints and marine
growth safely in a fraction of the time of
traditional methods The process also reveals any
blisters, cracks, potential delamination, or
gel-coat damage from prior maintenance before
they become a serious problem.
Before we begin any paint removal process, we
always perform a test patch on the hull to
ensure all parties are happy with the results. A
type of plastic skirt is taped just above the
water line on the hull to ensure all
contaminates that are being removed are
contained and do not enter the waterways. When
the paint removal process is finished, SBA will
clean the area, and thoroughly hose down the
hull to ensure any residue from the soda is
cleaned off.
